چکیده

The brain–computer interfaces (BCI) are that put the user in communication with an electronic device based on signals originating from brain. In this paper, we describe a proof of concept took place within context BciAi4Sla, multidisciplinary project involving computer scientists, physiologists, biomedical engineers, neurologists, and psychologists aim designing developing BCI system following user-centered approach, domain experts users since initial prototyping steps design–test–redesign development cycle. intends to develop software platform able restore channel patients who have compromised their possibilities due illness or accidents. most common case is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). background main project, also reporting some promising evaluation results, including real-time performance classification proof-of-concept prototype.

Towards User-Centered Retrieval Algorithms

Nowadays almost all retrieval algorithms (for text, images, drawings, etc.) are mainly concerned in achieving good system-centered measures, such as precision and recall. However, these systems are used by users, who try to achieve goals through the execution of tasks. To better satisfy the users’ needs we must involve them in the development process of the retrieval systems. In this paper, we ...

User-Centered reverse engineering: Genesis-D project

In the last years, the requirements of the end-users are notably evolved. A good software must not have only a good functionality cover but it also must have good usability features. From this point of view, the most recent design methodologies focus on the interaction between the end-user and its user experience; in this way, the design focus there is not on the data element (represented as ob...

The User-Centered Design as Novel Perspective for Evaluating the Usability of BCI-Controlled Applications

Albeit research on brain-computer interfaces (BCI) for controlling applications has expanded tremendously, we still face a translational gap when bringing BCI to end-users. To bridge this gap, we adapted the user-centered design (UCD) to BCI research and development which implies a shift from focusing on single aspects, such as accuracy and information transfer rate (ITR), to a more holistic us...

A Study in User-Centered Design and Evaluation of Mental Tasks for BCI

Current brain-computer interfacing (BCI) research focuses on detection performance, speed, and bit rates. However, this is only a small part of what is important to the user. From human-computer interaction (HCI) research, we can apply the paradigms of user-centered design and evaluation, to improve the usability and user experience. Involving the users in the design process may also help in mo...

Evaluation of Music Information Retrieval: Towards a User-Centered Approach

With the dramatic increase of online digital music, research on Music Information Retrieval (MIR) is flourishing more than ever. However, evaluation in MIR has been focused on system-centered approaches, where systems are evaluated against a pre-built ground truth dataset using system-focused measurements, and little attention has been spent on user experience. In this paper, we argue that MIR ...
